Sarah Jane Smith
portrayed by Elisabeth Sladen

Sarah Jane was a journalist that posed as her aunt, Lavinia Smith to get a story in The Time Warrior (December 1973) and ended up stowing away on the TARDIS.  She remained with the Doctor through his regeneration into his fourth persona and left in The Hand of Fear (October 1976) when the Doctor receives a recall to Gallifrey and cannot take Sarah with him.  She appears in K9 and Company and the Five Doctors. She is known for her spunk.
